If you are looking for a smaller breed of dog, one that is great with children, elderly, and strangers than you may want to give this breed a serious looking over. They are one the oldest known dog breeds and originated out of the Orient.
This dog was specially bred to solely be a companion dog. They are well mannered, and do not bark a lot (as most small breed dogs do). They will, however, stay by your side as long as you are there. Eat, sleep, and play is the mainstay in any Pugs day, so they can quickly become overweight if not watched.
They will be under-foot when you walk, across you when you sleep, and beside you when you are setting. They constantly crave to touch their owners, and are perfectly happy to just lie across your feet if they cannot set beside you.

Pugs are so easy-going and friendly by nature that taking them out into public places to be around people and other dogs is no problem for the pug. In fact, because they thrive on attention, Pugs love to go on outings, and walks. Most Pugs do not do well in hot weather so be careful with them and make sure that they have plenty of water and a cool place to retreat when they do overheat.
There are two types of Pug. The most well-known is the fawn colored pug that is very popular around the world. They are blond haired and usually have black around the face and black ears. Their noses are very short and their tails have that curl that is well-known to the pug variety with its ‘honey bun’ look.
The black Pug is all black and typically is shorter that the fawn. But the black pug’s nose is not as ‘smushed’ as the fawns are. Theirs are normally a little less wrinkled. The black pug is just as animated and lively as the fawns and they carry those same friendly personalities.
The Pug makes a great Family pet that will keep you entertained with their silly antics and playful spirit. Because the Pug is bred to be a companion dog, they do not do well when left alone for long periods every day. They well become lonely very quickly.
So if you are putting one in that type of environment, then the best option would be to either adopt two Pugs so that they have the company that they desire, or look at another breed all together that can handle the alone time.
